EDUCATION BOARD.

Present — Messrs Barnicoat, Rout, Campbell, Jackson, Burn, Atkinson, Shephard, Catley, Talbot, Wastney, Holland, Malcolm, Percy, and Hill. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Resolved, That in future no accounts shall be paid unless they have been previously approved of by the Works and Finance Committee; in order to meet which requirement they must be forwarded to the Secretary at least three clear days before the monthly meeting of the Board. Resolved, That the sum of £7 be set apart to meet the expense of painting the schoolhouse at Motupiko. A letter from Mr D. Nicoll, of Motupipi, was laid before the Board, proposing terms ioc the lease of the schoolgrouud at Motupiki, whereupon ft- was resolved, That the consideration thereof be postponed until the return of the Secretary f roor. the West Coast, j The consideration of the transfer of certain leases was postponed till the report of the Works and Finance Committee be received, as it had not been prepared by the assistant secretary in time for this meeting. Certain leases having been laid before the Board for signature, it was resolved that the business be postponed till the next monthly meeting. A letter was laid before tho Board from Mr G. Moonlinght, of Hampden, being in reply to one from the Inspector, requesting information as to the number and ages of children likely to attend a school at Hampden in case of one being established there ; whereupon it was resolved— That the Secretary be requested to write to the Inspector at Westland, to obtain in formation as to the working of the system of a travelling schoolmaster, which the Board have been informed exists in that district. The following notices of motion were then given: — 1. By Mr Holland— That £10 be sat apart for the erection of an outhouse for the use of the master at Fox Hill. 2. By Mr Hill— That £90 be set apart for enlarging the school-house at River Terrace. Bank balance on November Ist, £1040 2a 6d; to meet cheques for £1034 4s Id.
