EDUCATION BOARD.
Present : Messrs Barnicoat, Rout, Campbell, Wastney, Coudell, Fairhall, Percy, Pattie, Talbot, Catley, Fell, Leighton, Sheppard, Broad, Malcolm, Atkinson, Jackson, and the Bishop of Nelson. Minutes of last meeting read and con- . firmed. Resolved— That an assi3staut teacher at £36 per aunum be allowed at Hampdenstreet. Resolved— That £10 be allowed for desks and forms for the girl's school at Lower Wakefield. Resolved— That the consideration of raising the salary of the master et Cobdon be deferred for two months. Resolved— That £6 10s be allowed for closets at Eighty-eight Valley. Resolved — That the recom mendations embodied in the report of the Works and Finance Committee (see appendix A) be adopted. The special report of the Inspecter ou the Ngatimoti school having been read, it was resolved— That uuder the circumstances, and having considered the letter of the Local Committee and the report of the Inspecter, the Board sees no reason for altering existing arrangements. An application for a school at the foot of tho Moutere hills having been read, further consideration was deferred until after the Inspector's next visit to the district. An application for a subsidy to a school at the Lyell having been read, the Board agreed to allow a subsidy, provided the Inspector reported favorably in the matter, after his visit to the Lyell in October. Resolved— That the Board will allow the usual subsidy to a school at Hampden provided the Inspector is satisfied with the qualifications of the teacher. Resolved— That £20 be granted for desks and forms at Spring Grove school. A memorial from several inhabitants of Dovedale, asking for another school iu that district, having been read, it was resolved— That the Board canuot comply with the request of the memorialists. Resolved— That the Spring Grove Com. mittee be authorised to appoint a temporary assistant for one month, at a salary of- £36 per annum. Resolved— That the Suburban North Committee be authorised to make arrangements for the retirement of the teacher of Clifton Terrace school, and temporarily supplying her place. Notice of motion by Mr Maloolm— That £7 be sent apart for painting the Motupiko school. Bank balance on October 2nd £1021 I4s 4d, to meet cheques for £949 lis Id*
