THE WRECK OF THE LORD ASHLEY
The following particulars of the wreck of this steamer were fo .-warded to the Melbourne Argus from Sydney, the 9th inst:~ The steamer Lord Ashley, bound from Newcastle- to Melbourne, weut ashore at 8 o'clock last night, close to the entrance of Terrigal Boat Harbor, about five miles north of Cape Three Points. Her o.vner was on hoard at the time. All went well until 5
p.m., when the a es3el was found to be mak iug : water rapidly. All hands got safely on shore. After the crew had landed at Terri-
gal, the captain went back to the vessel and let go the anchors, Tho water was then up , to. and over the maiudeck forward. The heavy, swell caused her to drag her anchors, and she struck violently broadside on the locks, entirely exposed to the swell. At ahout 9 o'clock a.heavy sea, dashed her further aste -h, when she broke in two at the fore gangway. At daylight everything had been washed offi her decks, and the sea made cleau breaches through the hurricane deck.
