[PRESS AGENCY.] Napier, Tuesday. At the Synod this afternoon, the Rev. E. C. Stuart was unanimously nominated to the Bishopric of .Waiapu. Wellington, Tuesday. Captain Mitchell, of the Glenora, died on the passage from Auckland to London. He was suffering from heart disease when he left Auckland. Wednesday. Last night a public meeting decided on forming a Fire Police Corps, the duties of which are to save life, to protect property, to assist the regular police at any fire, and to keep space for the efficient working of the Fire Brigade. A captain and officers were appointed and thirty men enrolled themselves. The Wellington Trust and Loan Investment Comoany decided last night to increase their capital by another £100,000, by issuing ten thousand £10 shares, so as to enable the company to be registered on the London Stock Exchange, and raise money there at a lower rate than in the colony. Dun'bdin, Wednesday. It is rumored here that negotiations are pending for the amalgamation of the Otago Daily Times and Guardian. Rivkrxon, Wednesday. At the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day, Frauds M'Carthy was brought up on remand charged with iudecent assault. He was discharged, the Bench considering that there was no evidence to make out a primx facie case against the prisoner upon which a jury could convict. Port Chalmers. Wednesday. i The schooner Friendship has arrived at the Heads from Macquarie's Island. Capt. Wilson reports the total wreck of the schooner Benclengh at the Macquarie'a on August 25, when she was driven on shore in a terrific S.E. gale. A Maori named Wallay died on Aug. 24 from the effects of a fractured thigh, and another seaman named Pentey is still suffering from a fracture of the leg. All the stores were saved. The vessel, which was owned by A. and J. Thomson, merchants, Port Chalmers, wa3 insured in the Victoria office for £800.
