The Nelson Evening Mail. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 1877.

As some misunderstaudiug has arisen from a statement made iv our shipping column yesterday to the effect that the Queen Uee Wreck Recovery Company were about to abandon the wreck, we are requested to state that the work has only ceased temporarily, and, in the event of the Compauy's interests not being disposed of at the auction next Saturday, will bo at once resumed. There is said to be a considerable quantity of cargo still available. We publish to-day a telegram dated Bombay, September 15. This contains the latest European news that is likely to reach New Zealand until the 27 th inst., as, since its trans-

mission, the cable between Batavia and Singapore haa broken, and communication will have to be carried on by steamer between those two places. The firat regular steamer will arrive at Batavia to-morrow week, and unless some other boat runs across in the meantime there will be no telegrams until that date, when a large and importaufc batch of news may be looked for. At the Magistrates' Court to-day, John Stewart, for being drunk and disorderly, was fined los and costs or 48 hours' imprisonment, and for assaulting Constable Cooper in the execution of his duty £5 and costs, or one mouth. — There were three or four small debt cases of no importance except to the parties concerned. A twelve horse-power boiler has just been completed at Messrs Moutray and Crosbie's Soho Foundry to the order of Mr Nahr, brewer, of Westport, and was shipped on board the Kennedy this afternoon for conveyance to its destination. It is satisfactory to know that work of this description cau be so well executed in Nelson. We have been requested to correct an error which appeared in our morning contemporary of to-day with reference to the entertainment for the Lunatics at the Asylum this evening. No arrangements have been made for a concert, nor is the refectory of the establishment sufficiently extensive to allow of visitors beiug "refected" except by the bill of fare that a dance and a good farce may give. Wednesday evening is always devoted to recreation at the Asylum, and on this occasion the members of the Amateur Dramatic Association have kindly promised to give their assistance, so that those who were prevented from going to the OddFellows' Hall on the llth instant may attend, as ' also any others who feel disposed to supplement the Lunatic Recreation Fund. A nice billet. The London Daily News war correspondent informs that journal that lteuter's agent at the seat of war is a military doctor in the Turkish service, aud unless he submits his telegrams to the Turkish officials for supervision, he runs a chance of being shot. The Marlborough Exp ress reports the receipt of the following telegram from Havelock ou Friday last: — " How is Blenheim? Great joy here. Six inches of water in the Bauk. Business stopped." The editor of the Express is happy to be able to announce that iv this respect Blenheim is mora fortunate than the neighboring town. A RECRurTiNG medicine. As a means of increasing the dimished vital forces, of enlisting the recuperative powers latent in the system, in an effort to recover lost vigor and health, of affording a suppport and solace to the aged and iv firm, of reinforced of the digestive and uninary organs when enfeebled and finally of bringing to the " front" the glow of health aud the smile of cheerfulness, there is no recruiting medicine so prompt and efficient as Udolpho Wo_.b*__'s Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps. — Advt.
