The Nelson Evening Mail. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 1877.

• The foliowiug report oa a specimen forwarded to Welliugton ,by Mr Washbourne from the Richmoud Kill ■ Silver Mine, haa beeu received from Dr Hector:—" This ia an interesting, aud possibly a valuable discovery. There is a considerable quantity or bisulphide of iron (niundic) in this specimen, which lowers the proportion of nickel. A mineral similar to this is largely worked in America for nickel." The rails for the Port extension of the Nelson and Foxhill railway arrived at Wellington by the Orari last week, aud the Government are calling for tenders for conveying them to Nelson. Tub new Lutheran Church, lately built on the site above the gaol, was opened yesterday afternoon. In spite of the unfavorable weather a large number had assembled, not only of Germaus, a great many of whom had come over twenty miles, but of English friends, amongst the latter being the Lord Bishop of Nelson. The little building was rilled to overflowing, not les3 than 200 being present. It was very tastefully decorated inside with ferns and evergreens, which gave it a very pretty appearance. The consecration was performed by the venerable pastor, the Rev Mr Heine, who feelingly expressed the hope that the little church might at all times be filled by a congregation earnest and sincere in their desire to acknowledge the glory of the Almighty, and that nothing but the pure word of God might ever be preached there. Tlie sermon from the pulpjt was preached by the Rev Mr Meyer, of Ranzau, while the Kev Mr Dierks took an active part in the performance of the choir. The Upper Moutere choir, to the number of 28, uuder the able leadership of a young lady, a daughter of the Rev Mr Heine, who also presided at the harmonium, sang gome of the beautiful German hymns most creditably, and added greatly to the effect of the service. Everybody was astonished that so efficient a choir should exist in an out of the way place like the German village. The offertory added the handsome amount of £10 to the church building fund. The Building Committee wish to express their heartfelt thanks to all those who so kindly aided them in raising the necessary funds to erect this house of God. Tu? September meeting of the Permanent Building Society will be held this evening at seven o'clock. Tue Bud of Promise Tent of Rechabi.tes will meet at the Young Men's Christian Association Rooms this evening at 7-30. Mu. Moorhouse, M.H.R., has been elected captain of the Wellington Artillery Company vice Captain Pearce, resigned. It appears that we were somewhat ha3ty on Saturday in complaining that the Press Agency had neglected to telegraph the fall of Plevna, which was published—erroneously as it now appears— in the Evning Post of Thursday last. Loudon telegrairfs of the 13th inst.— the date on which the message appeared in the Post—state that the bombardment still coutiuued, and although the Russian? jtppear to be gradually approaching closer and closer to the town, they have not succeeded in taking it. Premature decay. From inherent weakness, overwo-k, continued exposure to unwholesome air or sudden variations of temperature, from business carei, sorrow, or other causes, the constitutions of many persons prematurely decay. Under such circumstauccs, a wise discrimination should be exercised in selecting the material with to repair dilapidation and restore' the human edifice Remember that the sanction ol four thousand physicians has beeu accorded to Udolpho Womb's Schikdam Aromatic Schnapps.— Advt,
