MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
[Before It. Pollock and 11. C. Daniell, Esqs., J.J.P.] Michael Sullivan was charged with being drunk on Sunday morning. Fined $s and costs, or 48 hours.
Elizabeth Abbott was charged with beiug drunk yesterday evening. Being an old offender she'was fined 10s or 48 hours. George Hal l,-.a lad 14. years of age, was charged with 'stealing 4s 5d from Mr M; Stephenson's till. Prisoner pleaded guilty. Inspector Kiely said that prisoner had been-, seen to go into Mr Stephenson's shop, lean over the counter, and take something out of the till. Mrs Stephenson was warned, and she set an apprentice to watch under the counter. The boy went in again, aud had taken 4s 5d when he was arrested. Mrs Hall, the mother of the lad, said thafc they had been in Nelson since the 14th of March, when they came up from the Karamea. The boy was sent to school when he was able to go, but he was delicate and sub]ect to fits, and could not go often. Eor the same reason he was nofc able to get employment. The Bench sentenced the prisoner to a month, stating thafc if ever he was brought up again oa a similar charge he would be whipped as well as imprisoned. The boy was then removed crying bitterly.
