London, September 3. Mehemet Ali attacked the Russians in force on the 30th ult. at Poskoi, and drove them back beyond the river Lorn with heavy loss. Osruan Pasha attacked the Russiaus en the 31st in front of Plevna, and captured several Russian positions commanding the road to Loftche. The Shipka situation is unchanged. Sydney, Sept. 4. Maiden Stakes — Woodland, 1; Ingomar, 2; Crusader, 3. Won easily. Selling Plate— Wamba, 1; Bowstring, 9; Viscount, 3. Metropolitan— Amendment, 1; Painter, 2; Timothy, 3. Rand wick Stakes — Ino, I ; Rake, 2 ; Ransomie, 3. Messrs Clarke, Hodgson, and Co., of Brisbane, have suspended payment. Liabilities, £90,000. A great fire broke out in the Beehive store at Graf ton last night. The damage amounted to over .£SOOO. The following horses are scratched for the Metropolitan :-— Coveutrv, Louisat, Waxy, Fisherman, Glengarry, Black Eagle, Rookwood, Cap-a-pie, Charity, Laertes, Kingfisher, and Moria.
