The Nelson Evening Mail. THURSDAY, AUGUST 16, 1877.
The enquiry into the circumstances attending the wreck of the Queen Bee commenced this morning, and the examination in chief of Captain Davies by Mr Acton Adams continued until one o'clock, when the Court adjourned. There seems to be every probability of the enquiry lasting at least a week. I To-morrow the captain will be examined by i the Nautical Assessor, after which he will be ' cross-examined by Mr Pitt. We notice in the London Times of the 3 1st May last, at the general examination of students of the Inns of Court, held at Lincoln's Inn Hall in May, the Council of Le-ml Education awarded to Percy Bolland Adams, fcsq; 8.A., Trinity Hall, Cambridge, and Inner Temple, London (brother of Mr. Actou Adams), a certificate that he had satisfactorily passed a public examination And in the Times of the 14th June last a further announcement that Percy B. Adams Esq. 8.A., was that day called to the degree of Barrister at Law. We understand that Mr Percy Adams will immediately return to Nelson to join the firm of Messrs Adams and Kmgdon, solicitors. No less than eleven " travellers " are now at Greymouth detained by the state of the bar. The poor fellows, in a telegram sent to iSelson yesterday, declare themselves to be in that peculiar stage known as "fly-blown," and have forwarded a piteous request to the owners of a local steamer to find them board and lodging on board. The owners, we understand, fully entering into the spirit of the joke, have replied that they are astonished that British Commercials should be at so low sui ebb, and suggest that under the circumstances the more fit and proper course for them to pursue would be to subscribe towards the expenses incurred by tjje detention of the steamer.j We understand that a letter has been received from Mr Sharp stating that subscription lists for the Queen Bee relief fund have been placed in all the hotels in Wellington and that it is expected that a large amount will be collected. The Harmonic Society's concert in aid of the Queen Bee relief fund will beheld at the Provincial Hall this evening. An attractive programme has been arranged, as will be seen by reference to our advertising columns A QtiADKiw assembly will be held at the Oddfellowg' Hall this evening. We understand that a dramatic entertainment is to be given on Monday evening for the benefit of the Queen Bee Relief Fund by the seamen of H.M.S. Sappho. ' A " Jtoss'CGit social gathering" is to take place in the Drill Shed to-morrow evening in commemoration of the rescue of the Queen Bee's passengers and crew, and in recognition of the services of those who took part \ in the search. Tea is to be on the table at $■■;}(), t!»e materials for which have been provided by the shopkeepers of the towD, Mr Stevenson undertaking the preparation, and after tea a promenade concert w\\\ be given by a. number of the seamen of H.M. Sappho. The Star Combination Troupe, who are well and favorably known jij Nelson and other parts of the colony, will give entertainments in the Masonic Hall on Friday and Saturday evening. The programme comprises songs, dances, farces, and instrumental music.
The following items of news are to hand per Albion from Melbourne :—The case of '\ Ireland v. Captain Chapman, late HM.S. Dido, for false misrepresentations in Fiji, is proceeding. The damages claimed are £10,000.—The Tasmanian Ministry have resigned on a vote of wanfcof confidence.—The dronght in Victoria is being severely felt. The weather is now very dry and warm.— Business is improving. Large supplies of breadstuffs continue to be received from the country, but as the market is not forced there has been no reduction of prices. The news of the cruel slaughter of Christians which reaches us daily is assuredly most heartrending, and the wholesale butchery of the unfortunate Bulgarians calls for the sympathy of every kindly heart, but so also should every well-wisher sympathise with the sick, suffering, aud dying of our own community. How many are the miseries and wretchednesses through a neglect of ourselves which are constantly being witnessed and experienced, and which could have been averted by the timely aid of the Medicinal Art, and if those who have been benefitted by the use of Ghol&ah's Great Indian Cdees would recommend them to others who are suffering the tortures and miseries of Rheumatism, Rheumatic Gout, Liver Complaints, Biliousness, Sick Headaches, Gout, &c, in the like manner to testimonials so frequently published by the Proprietor, and one of which is now appended, an amount of kindness and sympathy would be exerted to influence the poor sufferers to use these Indian Medicines for the restoration of their health, aud the saving of many a valuable life for the benefit of mankind generally, but more particularly for the immediate family circle — Testimonial Referred To. Nelson, 15th August, 1877. lhe Proprietor of Ghollah'a Great Indian Cures— Dear Sir—Having suffered for six months; from Rheumatic Gout, I was prevailed on to give your medicine a trial, and after taking three bottles of the Rheumatism Mixture found myself completely cured.
