Mr J. X: Emmett (Fritz) threw himself into the sea from the Glenelg jetty. He was dragged out by some fishermen, and when rescued he laughed heartily. He denies that he attempted suicide, aud says he only wanted a bafch. A grave charge has been preferred against Dr Beauey, surgeon of the Melbourne Hospital—namely, that he admitted non-profes-sional witnesses to see a delicate operation performed ou a female under chloroform, The Victorian Government invite the neighboring colonies to co-operate in enacting legislation against runaway husbands.
