[Br Reuter's Submarine Cable.] __ _, Sydney, Saturday. Ihe Government was defeated last night, and the House adjourned to enable Ministers to consider their position. The Herald's special telegram from Plevna says that the Russians attacked and carried the first and second lines of the Turkish position, but subsequently were driven back by the deadly fire from the Turkish infantry. The Turks then advanced and recaptured all their positions,, slaughtering an enormous number of the Russians. The Russian forces consisted of five divisions of infantry, three brigades of cavalry, and 160 guns. This defeat imperils the Russian position at Tirnova. On the south of the Balkans, the Russians encountered the Turkish forces under Sulieman Bey and Redif Pasha, at Eske Saghra on Tuesday, and were repulsed, losing several guns.
