A despatch from Lord Augustus Loftus to Lord Derby says that fears are entertained of a terrible vengeance on the part of the Mussulmen for Russiau atrocities. There has been a serious riot at Chicago, the military killing and wounding 139 persons. r The Erie strike is ended. ! The American situation is improving. ' The mail steamer Tanjore arrived at Galle on the 26th. The Russians have invested Silistria. Singapore, Saturday. A Turkish army corps is concentrated afc Plevna, threatening Russian communications with Roumania. The Turkish Landwehr is called out. Sunday. Suleiman Bey has been defeated at Rarabunar. There is an agitation at San Francisco against Chinese immigration, and a Vigilance Committee has been formed.
