FOOTBALL MATCH.
NELSON VERSUS WELLINGTON COLLEGIANS. The third football match between the Nelson and Wellington Collegians waa played in Wellington on Saturday last, when from 1500 to 2000 people were ou the ground Ihe weather was all that could have been' desired for football, it being , a cloudy,, cold day, with a. light southerly, breeze. A M'Rae captained the Nelson boys, and Webb, the Welhngton. The former having won the , toss, wisely chose td kick with the wind Punctually at three o'clock Webb "of -Wel- ( lington comiuenc-d with a good kick off The ball was smartly returned by Rout, and a scrimmage eusued close to the Wellington goal. Martin then got hold of the ball and n -^?, good _? n ' fauewaa neatly caught by I A. M'Rae Wellington then witha splendid j charge, helped by a good kick from Tavlor I carried- the ball unpleasantlyclose to Nelson's' goal, but by the splendid play of A J M'Rae, nothing was scored; The ball 'was i then kept in the middle of the ground for some time, until Webb made a good rnn bat was soon caught. Some excellent play on each side was shown, both teams being evenly matted. At length Vickerman by a fine kick gained a half-point for Nelson. Martin then made another smart run, which was followed by another by Cooper. A good kick from Webb enabled Rout to have a fine run, and he was only just caught in time by Taylor, one of Wellington's back players Vickerman again with a splendid left-footed drop kick got another half point for his side Time was then called, the scores standing thas-^Nelsou, J J Wellington, o. A "hack off in the centre of the field resulted in tfce ball being carried close to Wellington's goal but Martin soon carried it away by anotber good run. Both teams were now striving their utmost, and some splendid play on both sides was shown. The "passing on "on the Nelson side was especially noticeable Vickerman first got bold of the ball, and then passed it onto Richmond, who in his turn passed it to Rout, but Cooper, who was on the alert, was on him before he could do anything. Askew again missed the goal, as the distance was too great. Another scrimmage in front of Wellington's goal resulted in another half-point for Nelson.
