The report of the Public Works Committee recommended that the application for permission to construct; a drain into the Brook-street stream, be refused ; thafc fche offer of Messrs Blick Brothers for keeping in repair a portion of the embankment; of fche Brook-street sfcream he accepted; fchafc Bronfci-sfcreefc be repaired; fchafc fche Surveyor be instructed to report upon fche extension of the Haven Road from the Post Office to baUwafcer Bridge to its full width. The City Surveyor's report on fche.gasworks showed thafc during fche month of Jane 76 tons 14 cwfc of coal had been carbonised, yielding 567,700 cubic . feet of gas,, of which 67,300 feet, or about; llf percent, had been lost. The coal used was ColUngwood and Coal Pit; Heafch mixed but a trial of fche latter had yielded 9230 feet per ton.- -'-"... . _ : The Mayor stated thafc the publicans* licenses, amounting to £1100, had "been received, and there vrm now a credit balance ' of £700 afc fche Bank. iT^rf. _ Plans of the proposed improvement of Malifax-streefc were laid upon the table, and their adoption advocated by Cr T. Harley At this time, the conductof Cr J. A. Harley I who had been most disorderly throughout the whole eveuing, became so "intolerable thafc the Council was compelled fco disperse; « the Mayor asking the representatives of the Press to publish the reason of fche premature close of the meeting.
