Licensing Courts will be held at Bichmond, Waimea West, and Spring Grove on Monday. Thb Customs receipts collected at the Port of Nelson, for the week ending June 9, amounted to £747 14s. 6d. Theke will be Divine service in the Bethel Hall, Haven road, at half-past six to-morrow evening. The Evening Mail can be obtained of Mr H. Young, opposite the Commercial wharf, the Port. Sermons in connection with the Wesleyan Foreign Missions will be preached in the Hurdy-streeb Church to-morrow, in the morning by the Rev. J. Beckenham, and in the evening by Mr J. Rose. Oct of eight applicants for the mastership of the Spring Grove Sohool only three were considered by the Board of Examiners to be eligible for the office. These were Messrs W. N. Franklyn, W. Ladley, and E. Cowles, the former of whom received the appointment. The services will be conducted in the Congregational Church to-morrow, by Mr. Short in the morning, the subject being " The five precious things of Peter," and in the evening by the Pastor]; subject, " The Father's Love. Owing to the Murray having been detained by a fog she did- not arrive in time to admit of Mr Mabin holding the sale of sheep advertised for to-day. The sale has consequently been postponed until Tuesday. The Committee of the Nelson Aid Society held its monthly meeting at the Court House yesterday afternoon. It was found that several pressing cases" required immediate assistance. It was reported that the ladies were prepared to collect subscriptions, and they also suggested that other ladiea acquainted with distress should be invited to
attend their meeting at Selwyn Cottage, any Monday afternoon, between half-past three a_d four o'clock. It was found that tha small sum now in hiand was barely sufficient to meet immediate requirements. The Committee desire the attention of the inhabitants generally to this matter, and hope that many contributions will be forwarded without' further solicitation. We remind our readers that R. M. Waite, Esq., of the National Bank of New Zealand, is the Hon. Treasurer of the Society.
In taking to "The Bottle " last night, the Good Templar Dramatic Company achieved, a great success, but not greater than those who took part in the entertainment, and had devoted many weary nights to gettiug it up, deserved. Prom the rise of the curtain upon the happy home where liquor waa unknown, to the fall on the final tragedy, the piece was ably sustained, and the manner in which ib was acted reflected the greatest credit upon the performers, as also did several new scenes, then presented for the first time, upon an amateur painter in the town who had executed them. The Hall was ' densely packed at an early hour with tax audience..that proved itself highly appreciative*, and whose frequent and well merited applause must have had a most encouraging effect upon the actors. The piece will ba repeated on Monday, when we shall ba surprised if there is not as great a crowd as was assembled. last night.
