The basis of the action was .is follows -~ In February, 1871, Thomas Field let to the defendants for 14 years the premises known as the " lied Horse Hotel " with all the outbuildings, which were to be kept in substantial repair. Afterwards Field transferred all his reversion in the said premises to the plaintiff who, it was alleged, had failed to keep certain stables in repair, wherby the p'aintiff's reversion was injured, and the said stables were rendered useless. The defence was that the defendants were not liable for such dilapidations as result from the natural operation of time and the elements, and it was stated that the stables were in such a condition as to be past all repair.
