The Nelson Evening Mail. FRIDAY, MAY 25, 1877.
Captain Edwin telegraphed from Wellington this afternoon as follows ; — " Watch barometer; bad weather approaching. Wind any direction between N. and W. and S.W. Further fall of glass. Likely to be a very heavy gale." Mk and Mrs George Cotterell's farewell entertainment, composing several new items, will take place at the Masonic Hall this evening . The Children's Treat under the superintendence of Mr Crisp passed off most successfully yesterday, the weather, fortunately, keeping fine during the day. The number of youngsters who partook of the bonntiful tea provided and the quantity of cakes and buns that they disposed of are past calculation. Tub latest Aus'ralasian to hand says: " Transactions in hops are of a most unimportant character; Is lOd to Is lid is required for Shoobridge's. Kents are quite neglected." A brilliant gathering took place at the Provincial Hall last evening, on the occasion of the annual ball given under the auspices of the Volunteers. The hall was not so profusely decorated as on previous occasions, but the bunting of the Naval Brigade's Aurora was hung up across the room, and this with a fow other fla^s produced a pleasing effect. About fifty couples were present, t l- e uupropitious state of the weather no doubt having had the effect of preventing a number from going who would have done so had it been fine. The attendance of volunteers was not so large as might have been expected, ;the Blue Jackets from the Port mustering the strongest. Dancing was commenced shortly before nine o'clock, and was kept up with great spirit until an early hour this morning. The music was supplied by the Artillery Band, who were placed in the large gallery, and both galleries were strictly closed to spectators. The refreshments were provided on a liberal scale, and appeared to give general satisfaction.
What everybody aaya must be true. And what does everybody say? Why, that, as a strengthener of the weak, an invigorant of the organs of disgestion and excretion, a solace for the aged and decrepit, as a season medicine, a remedy for uterine, kidney ai d bladder complaints, a protection against changes of air, water and diet, and an antidote to the consequences of dissipation, late hours and overwork, Udolpho Wolfe's Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps is absolutely matchless.— Ad vfc
