MAGISTRATES' COURT.

Edward C. Bartley. cab driver, was charged v,.'.th leaving his hackney carriage unattended in the street. Fined lOs and costs. VVi'liam Scott was charged that being master of the steamer Lyttelton he suffered three cattle to be landed at the Port of Nelson without having obtainod the certificate of the Inspector, as provided by the Diseased Cattle Act, 1871. Defendant pteaded guilty. Mr Acton Adams, for the Inspector, said he was instructed to ask for the minimum penalty— the maximum being £500— as the cattle were brought from Marlborough, which was not an infected district, but the Inspector washed to show that cattle could not be imported under auy circumstances without a certificate. Fined 10s, and costs £1 10s. Hagan v. Myers. — Action to recover £3 3s for the services of the horse Sherwood. Mr Acton Adams appeared for the defendant. The defence was that the horse was withdrawn befo *c the season was over. Judgment was given for defendant with £3 16s costs.
