The Nelson Evening Mail. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25, 1877.

Mb. A. S. Collins informs us that he left his house in Suburban North on Monday morning with the intention of discovering, if possible, some shorter road to the Wangamoa Sad<Ue than that at present used, and returned last night, having successfully achieved the object he had in view. With the assistance of one man he blazed a track from the Bluff Rock to the Saddle, which saves at least three miles and strikes the summit at such a spot as to allow of the descent on the Wangamoa side being considerably shortened. The gradient is in no place rn^re than one in 20, and the obstacles to making a good coach joad are few and easily overcome. The Rev. J. Beckenham was to deliver a lecture on Bush Life in New South Wales in Wellington last night. The Adelaide wheat statistics for the year have boen published, and show that the total area sown was 1,718,770 acres,, of which 211,882 acres were not reaped. The average yield of the acreage sown was 5 bushels 25 lbs, and of the acreage reaped 6 bushels 43 lbs. The latest advices state that 15,000 bushels had been sold at 6s 5d for export to New Zealand.

Mr. Mabin calls attention to the auction at the' Hope store, 'which will be continued to-morrow at 11 o'clock, it having been impossible to get through more than half the stock yesterday. The Secretary was also requested to write to C.Y. Fell, Esq., asking : him to stand as captain, and to Captain Cross requesting him to be nominated as honorary captain. There being two vacancies for second-class petty-oftlcers Seamen J. Dayman and Fathers were elected. An unanimous - wish -having been expressed by'the-mem-bers of |the company to make .'their late captain, JRV Richardsoij, . Esq., a suitable present in recognition of his services, it was , i decided to, have a large -photograph of the ; Aurora and her crew taken, and the Secre- : tary was directed to wait upon the various photographers in town with the view of obtaining the probable cost,"&c. The sum of £5 was voted to Coxswain Johnson for looking after the boat shed for the past year. It . was decided to hold a church parade every alternate month. "Lieutenant Gully aiid P.iO.'s W. The following is the full text of the Red- ; wood-Robinson correspondence which appeared in the Christchurch morning papers onMonday last:— * Sir— lwish to be allowed to express to you my most profound regret and sorrow for the gross assault I committed on you on Tuesday night, aud in tendering you my humble and public apology for this assault I; wish it further to be known that not the slightest provocation of any sort was given to me by you at the time, nor was a word said by you which could in any way justify my conduct, and that the blow given by me, with a stick, was totally unexpected by you. lam, yours obediently, H. Redwood. The Hon. Wm. Robinson, Christchurch." Mr Robinson's reply is as follows: — " Sir— ln reply to your letter of to-day, conveying your apology for the assault you committed on me, I have to state that out of regard for many members of your family whom I have known for many years and for whom I have much respect, I do not intend to press the case in the Police Court against you, and therefore for these reasons, but for no other, I accept your apology.
