The Nelson Evening Mail. TUESDAY, APRIL 3, 1877.

The thirty-third anniversary of the Nelson School Society will be celebrated by a tea and public meeting this evening. One " drunk" constituted the entire business of the R.M. Court this morning. Seeiug that yesterday was a holiday, this says much for the temperance aud sobriety of the people of Nelson. The Colonial Bank opened a branch at Messrs Adams and Kingdon's offices to-day. We have occasionally heard of the difficulties and dangers of the Itai Valley route, and of the formidable precipices that have' to be scaled and descended. For the future, however, there ought to be nothing more said or written of these obstacles, as yesterday two ladies rode into Nelson by way of the valley, aud this before any attemxTt has been made to construct a road. The number of passengers who paid their fares by the train yesterday was slightly in excess of 2500, and the receipts were £160. In addition to these the whole of the Volunteers and members of the Fire Brigades were provided with passages free of cost. We call attention to a number of mining advertisements, making calls in the various companies alluded to, which appear in the third page of to-day's issue. A muddy brain is the usual concomitant of a disordered stomach. Life's cares are quite enough for the great thinking organ to bear without being plagued by the demons begotten of indigestion, constipation, and kindred ailments. But don't imagine you can drive away these plagues by violent purgation.
