: . The fortnightly meeting wa3 held last i..night. Present : all the members but Cr Pickering. ' ! ;„•• A letter 'was read' from Mr R. Carter, asking" for an- advance of £50 on the contract supplying metal on the Haven road. There .was some discussion on this, Cr J. Harley^ objecting on th« ground that such a proceeding was- irregular. Eventually it wa3 decided to allow him £30. A letter from the inhabitants of Hardy and Nile-street East; complaining of a nuisance occasioned by a pigstye oa the premises of Mr Day, was referred to'the- Inspector of Nuisances. A letter was received from Mr Bethwaite, that he was charged tenpence a month for the use of a meter, while the value of the gas he used in that time was only 2s 6d. lief ef ted to the Gaa and Waterworks Committee. The report of the Public Works Committee having been read, it was resolved — That £20 be granted to Mr Carter towards making a road to the quarry at the Maitai; that a drinking trough be erected on College; Hill; that a footpath be formed on Waimea road from Stringer's corner to join the present rpath; that the Government be requested to clear , the snags from the Maitai rirer near .. Colling wood-street bridge; that the encroachments on Wellington-street be enquired into. The Baths Committee brought up their report, which recommended the expenditure of £400 on the construction of baths between the Commercial Wharf and the Pilot Station, : and that the Government be applied to for a : lease of the site. Cr Webb moved, and Cr - Gray seconded, that the report be adopted. Cr J. Harley objected, but his being the only dissentient' voice the motion was agreed to. On the motion of Cr Gray, seconded by Cr Waters, it was resolved that plans and specifications be at once .prepared. . •' " ; Tenders for earthworks in Vanguard-streefc wero received as : ; follows : — Marrick and Gordon;' -.£320; E. Cr Gray again brought forward the subject of calling for tenders for the banking business, as he feltconvinced they might obtain more favorable terms, as had been done by the.lnangab.ua County Couucil by pursuing a; similar course. The matter was referred to the Finance Committee. „ '.
