Riverton, Wednesday. The s.s. Express, while lying alongside the timber jetty on the south side of the river parted her bow line at eleven ©'dock last nigbt, and swung round with ber stern on to the rocks. It is supposed she must have made a hole iv one of her plates, as she immediately commenced to make water. The pumps were at once set goiug, but although they have been working hard ever since, she has not been lightened any, but appears to be settling down. It is hoped that as the tide makes they will be able to drag her over to the other side of the river aud beach her. Napier, Wednesday. At Mr Miller's sale of thoroughbred horses at Hasting, Ohupai was sold to John Karena for £700, and Tawera to the same buyer for £500. The mare Valette was bought by Mr Lyons for £101. All these are from Dounelly's stock. Hokitika, Wednesday. The Alhambra has arrived from Melbourne. Passengers for Nelson — Messrs Simpson^ Bryan, Walker, and Clavering. She has 217 tons of cargo for all ports. She sailed for Nelson at 11 a.m. Ddnedin, Wednesday. The City Council has decided to adopt Parts 12 and 13 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1876. Mr Pearson bas issued a summons against the Corporation of Dunedin as being the Local Board of Health of the city. He sues the defendants for that they on the 22nd of January, 1877, contracted with him to tend and nurse his children for reward, yet did so negligently and improperly, and kept, tended, and nursed his children so that he suffered great loss and harm therefrom. He claims £200 damages. The Match Committee met last evening to select the Otago eighteen to play against the All-England Eleven.
