The All-England in their first innings scored 190. Our- report of the Synod proceedings, which ia longer than usual to-day, will be found to contain a summary of two interesting debates, one on the Temperance question and the other on religious education in the public schools. Mr Mabin notifies that he will sell by auction to-morrow the right to erect a licensed victualler's and fruiterer's booths on the cricket ground for the match days. Knapp. Nelson Club : Alfred Coles, Chris. Cross, H. Cross, J. Firth, and H. Halliday. Motu-

The adjourned half-yearly meeting of the members of the City Kifles will be held at the Nelson Hotel this evening at half-past seven, when a full attendance is requested. Six coveys of partridges were recently seen in the Waikato district. This waa quite unexpected, as none had been seen since the birds were turned out some years ago. LiTTLe boys of eleven and twelve years of age have lately been earning 3s a day at picking potatoes in the neighborhood of Auckland. The Rattle op the Deadlt Crotalus is not more significant of danger than a dry, hacking cough. Silence this harbinger of Consumption. It has been ascertained by repeated experiments that, in addition to its tonic, diuretic, and purating properties, Udolpho .Wolfe's Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps possesses pulmonic virtues of no mean order; that it soothes and invigorates the irritated and weakened lining of the throat and bronchia, and prevents the inflammation from extending to the lungs.— Advt.
