A geass fire occurred yesterday afternoon on the Port. Hills, which will give them a very sombre appearance on the regatta days/ At one time a cottage belonging to Captain Conway was threatened, but all danger was averted by the members of the Port Brigade and the neighbors. It will be seen by. advertisement that Wednesday and Thursday next are proclaimed public holidays. McLean were passengers by tho Rotorua this: morning, the former on his way to Auckland, and the latter to Sydney. We are requested to correct an error which appeared in our morning contemporaries regarding the meeting of the Reeatta Committee, as there will be no meeting either to-night or on Monday. It waa resolved that tne original intention be adhered to, and .that any boats going ontside the flags be disqualified.
