Th e Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2, 1876.

A serious accident occurred to Mr Israel Pickard yesterday. He was at Mr Best's farm at Appleby getting some cheeses out of an upper storey, when the ladder on which he was standing slipped, and he fell from a considerable height to the floor, and was for some time insensible. Dr. Bligh was called in, and, on examination, found that no bones were broken, but that the sufferer was severely shaken aud bruised. A supplement that will afford an hour's pleasant reading, in presented to our sub.cribers with to-day's issue of the Mail. The Rev W. Elmslie, from Christchurch, will conduct Divine Service at the Presbyterian Church to-morrow, in tho morning at eleven, and m the evening at half -past six. In consequence of Wednesday next being the opening day of the Supreme Court, Mr i Mabin has postponed the sale of furniture, - &c, at the residence of the late J. Millar, Esq. until the following day.

A lectube, which promises to he very interesting, is to he given hy Mr Ashcroft on Monday evening in the Provincial Hall. The subject will be "Egypt," in which couutry Mr Ashcroft was for. a long time resident. , The proceeds are to be devoted to tbo buildinjg fundof the All Saints' schoolroom. The following are tha Cuitoms duties received at the port of Nelion during the month of November, 1876:— Spirits, £781 Us 9d; cigars, £39 7s 6d; tobacco, £331 ss; wine, £91 6s 2d; ale and beer (bottled), £107 4s6d; tea, £349 16s 3d; coffee, &c, £138 9d; sugar, £539 16s 6d; goods by weight, £348 16s 10d; ad valorem, £1582 6s; other duties, £143 17s 3d;— total, £4453 10s sd.
