To-moerow, being St. Andrew's Day, will be observed as a holiday at the. Banks. The monthly inspection parade' of the town Volunteers, advertised to take place on. Wakefield, to-morrow (St. Andrew's Day) at Wakefleld: Messrs A. S. Atkinson, D. Barnett, A. Coles, H. Cross, Curtis, Firth, Giil, Hatliday, A. Kerr, Lacey, and J. M'Rae. It will be seen byan advertisement in' another column that ■ Mr Ashcroffc has arranged for an.extra. train to-morow to convey the cricketers and their friends to the scene of the day's sport. Thi3 train will-leave Nelson at 8-30 a.m., returning from Wakefield at seven in the evening. It is expected that some good play will be seen, as we imagine this match to-be one of those prelimicary games got up for testing the capabilities of the individual players with a view to the selection of a team to play against the All England Eleven in February next. • There was quite a flow of cash into the Corporation treasury this morning, the source being the pockets of owners of truant horses. Brother Sherwood, who is never so happy as when he is serving jury summonses or receiving fines, was busily engaged for some time in collecting the contributions of those whose animals had been " accidentally" , straying for " just, a minute or two." The shillings taken at the doors yesterday as admission fees to the Horticultural Show amounted to £33. In addition to this a considerable number of season tickets, admitting .the subscriber and his family, have been sold and were "made use of, so that the number of visitors present could not have been far short of a thousand.
