The steamer Otago arrived last night from Hobarton, having left Melbourne on the 25th ult. and Hobarton on the 27th. She brings 56 passengers and ahout 300 tons cargo. Greymoutti, Wednesday. The returns from the Wealth of Nations Quartz-mining Company for the month were S(H ozs 12 dwts retorted gold. A dividend (twenty-first) of three shillings per scrip has been declared. The Energetic Company have also declared a dividend of three shillings per scrip. Dunedin, Wednesday. At a meeting of the Eire Brigade Demonstration Committee it was resolved to increase the prize for hose and ladder practice to thirty pounds, and lend distant brigades gear for practice and use. Four acceptances have been received and provisional promises received from four others. Nominations for the Cup close here on Sal urday. Bishop Moran has gone to Bathurst to conduct the dedication service of an Ecclesiastical College. Wellington, Tuesday. Captain Fail-child reports that the new steamer Hinemoa exceeds all expectations. She sails and steers to perfection, and easily does twelve knots per hour. The Government steamer Hinemoa under the command of Captain Johnson leaves tonight with members for the South, and the Stella, under the temporary command of Captain Fairchild, leaves at midnight for North. Westport, Tuesday. An action in the B.M. Court, brought by tbe police against the proprietor of the theatre for allowing dancing, in contravention of clause 41 of the Licensing Act, 1874, was dismissed, the Court ruling that without proof of having girls to dance with men to excite them to drink, no action would hold.
