The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1876.

A meeting of the Nelson and Howard Lodges of Oddfellows was held last night to receive the report of the .Hall Committee on the proposal to erect a }*ew building. A resolution iv favor of doing , s o was passed unanimously, and a list oi willing to take ?ip the debentures was <it once opened and received several names.

A meetino at which the chair will ba taken by bis "Worship the Mayor is

to be held on Monday evening at the Masonic Hotel for the purpose of making the necessary arrangements with Mr Bennett, the agent of the All England Eleven, to secure the playing of a match here in January or February next. The terms he requires are that £60 shall be paid towards covering the travelling expenses of the team, and that he shall receive all the fees for admission to the ground. What with putting the ground in good order and other incidental expenses, the total sum required will probably be from £90 to £100, and surely there should be no difficulty in raising this in the town and country districts, for all will be equally interested. The All England team is by far ;the strongest that ever visited Australia, so that we shall be afforded an opportunity of seeing such play as waß never yet witnessed this side of the line. Mr Bennett, who passed through Nelson yesterday on his way to Auckland, will return on Friday, by which time it will be necessary that he should receive a definite answer. We hope to see the matter warmly taken up, and that there will be a full meeting on Monday night. An entertainment is to be given at the Motueka Institute on Monday evemng, the 9th instant, when Mr Eearon will give a reading from Emerson's History, and deliver a short address on " Social Unity."
