Thursday, September 7. Present— Mr Barnicoat (chairman), the Bishop of Nelson, Messrs Dencker, Jackson, Leightoa, Shephard, Campbell, Talbot, Hill, Condell, Fairhall, Catley, Rout, Burrell, Malcolm, and Wastney. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Resolved—That Mr Tarrant's report on the condition of the teacher's house at Neudorf be referred to the Committee of Works, who are empowered to deal with the question. Resolved— That a fee of two guineas be paid to Mr Tarrant for his services on this and on a former occasion, when he reported on the state of the well at Neudorf. Resolved—That the Secretary call for tenders for re-covering the Stoke school either with shingle or iron, the present shingles not to be removed if iron be preferred; the Committee of Works being also aathorised to accept. Resolved- -That the Committee of Works be authorised to open and accept tenders for the new building in Tasman -street. Resolved— That the requisition from Cobdeu be referred to the Committee of Works, who are authorised to deal with it as they see fit. No eligible tender for the lease of the Pangatotara reserve having been received, it was resolved that the time for receiving tenders be extended to December 2, 1876. Resolved— That Mr J. Packard's offer of £5 for the old schoolroom at Clifton be accepted, and that he be allowed two months iu which to remove the building. Resolved— That his Honor the Superintendent be requested to grout the Board a lease at a nominal rental of the house at Westport formerly used by the District Surveyor, for the use of the teacher of Westport school. Resolved— That £40 be set apart for the repair of the house at Westport, and that Mr A. D. Dobson be requested to undertake the expending of this sum. Mr Rout obtained leave to withdraw his motion for reducing the salary of the master of the First Division Bridge-street School. Withreference to Mr Atkinson's notice of motion, it was resolved that the Inspector enquire of the teachers of all schools under the control of the Board what kind and degree of punishment is being inflicted in their schools, and for what offeuces; and that the result of this inquiry be laid before the Board. Resolved— That in future no scholarship be awarded to a candidate who fails to obtain half marks. Resolved, after a division— That 15 be the upper limit of age for candidates for scholarships. view to their reporting, at next meeting, as to the number of teacheVs houses still required. Kesolved— That Mr Parkes be requested to convey to the Boaird the portion of land that he formerly gave them, together with an additional strip of land, for which £3 ia s set apart. ' • A memorial from four masters of town' schools applying for an increase of salary having been read, it was resolved that the memorial be referred to the Finance Committee. Kesolved, in reply to Mr Hale's application to purchase the master's house atPangatotara — That he be informed that the house is not for sale.
