The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, JULY 8, 1876.
With to-day's issue we publish, as has been our custom for some years past, a supplement containing the annual report of the Inspector of Schools. Dr. Care's third seance last night was as successful as its predecessors, and the Hall was again crowded to excess. He will appear for the last time to-night. The experiment tried this morning by Messrs Sharp and Pickering of i holding a sale of skins and hides proved very successful, as will be seen by the prices as reported elsewhere. A correspondent sends the following villainous joke on Mr Stout's new Licensing Act:—" Beware of Otago. — We call the attention of oar representatives in Parliament and our brewers to an attempt which is beiog made to supersede the use of beer and other exhilarating beverages by 'Dunedin Stout:" Our shipping reporter, it appears, was in error in stating on Thursday that the ketch Mermaid got on the rocks in going out of the harbor, as we are assured that such was not the case.
