FAREWELL MEETING TO THE REV. T. BUDDLE.
A very successful tea anl public meeting was held at the Weßlevan Church la«-t evening, on the occa 'ion of bidding farowell to tbe.Ker T.';Buddlb^whq,.having^aerved his allotted three year* at Nelson^ bai'i according "'• to c mnexional usage, to remove elsewhere. The rev. gentleman is about to t*»ke charge of the Tnstitutim of Three Kings Aueklani, for the training of Native and English ministers. Both meetings were well attended, far more so than jhas been tha casson tever*l previous /.'occasions. The chiir was taken by Mr Price, in the regretted absence of both tbe Circuit Stewards, eitber of whom, in virtue of his office, should havo preside!. Touching ro'erence w»s raiJe to Mr Lncis, the Fenior Steward'* long and faithful services in connection with the Church, now Avithheld hy Iris protracted illness. Mr Hurkncs, Junior .Steward, a'so is confine 1 to the house by a severe cold. The Chairman read a kind note addressed to Mr Buddie by tha Bish p of Ne'son, expressive ;of the' high esteem in wbich he held Mr Biiddle/and his regret at his departure from Ne'son. There were^ ort. the '"platform the ;Ven. Archdeacon Thorpe, Revs.' Cilder, Presbyterisn, Leighton. Episcopalian, and Doiamore, Baptist ministers, nil of whom gave, expressions to ' the mo't fraternal feeling towar 's Mr Buddie, arid their regret at his haviog Nelson. The mreting was also addres«el by Messrs Wagg, Rose, Hadfield, Campbell, Boundy, and Batt, from Spring Grove Mr. Burior.K 'spike in a very feeling man- 1 ner of his regret and sorrow at leaving his church, and said that in reviewing the condition of things, now as compared. with what, he found them' three 'years ago, everything was in an improved stste. Financially it was better, as, when he took < lnrge of the circuit,' they were sime .£2OO in debt, whereas now it was free. Tbe membership wai increased, notwithstanding the large numbers who had left the circuit. The Sunday School had a larger number of children on the books now than then, ond also an increased staff of teachers, and in all the departments increase and progress were perceptible. This wa*» to him mou) gratifying, as was also the fact th t there waa to-day a more healthy feeling in all directions, and a greater prot peet of good ..being done, than heretofore. He commended to the Church and congregation his successor, of wh'-m he spoke in, the highest terms as a faithful and a devoted minister. ,- The choir, under their efficient conductor, Mr. Garrard, performed their share of the evening's proceedings exceedingly well. Cordial vote* of thanks were passed to the ladies who provided the tea, and to the choir for their valuable services, which were hap-, pilv acknowledge i by Mr. Garrard, arid a very nucceesftil and pleanant meeting was brought to a close by the Rer.
