OUR CEMETERY.

To the Editor ov the - Evening Mail.' Siu—l have just returned from attending a funeral in the new cemetery. About twenty mourners were present, and Aye had to stand the brunt of a g<le of wind and a pelting rain while fulfilling the la*t offi :es I am the last man to object to incurring t-ouble or danger to do good, but it seems to me lhat the constant exposure either to a burning sun. p. rough wind, or a dreuching rain is unnecessary, and therefore not to be borne wi h. I oYubt whether there is another burial ground in the province (now in use) where there is not a church or appropriate building in which tha religious riles can beperlo-med. Even so simple a building as that in the Richmond Cemetery would serve the purpose, at a cost not exceeding £-200. Some three or four ypnrs ago there was somo talk ahout canvassing the t>wn for subscriptions to b lild a mortuary chape', when ore of the Trustees (Sir Divid Monro, I believt) was understood to promise to soe to it, and the subscription idea dropped. But, beyond dark rumors of a plan of an Egyptian mausoleum bavii g been shown to a select few. nothing has b en done so far as ths public know. If the Trustees have not sufficient iuods in hand for the puipose, an appeul frotn tbem through the columns of the local pre.-s would be sure to elicit the necessary money. Let some two or three known persons catch a told in consequence of seeing their dead reverently buried, ani die right off. aud we should Mien awakf-n to the folly of faeriflcing valuable lives for the sake of a few pounds, and for lack of a little energy,— l am, &c, Z.
