MAGISTRATES' COURT.— SPRING GROVE.
[Before Hugh Martin, jun., and F. Kelling, Esqs., J.J.P ] YESTERDAY. Hawkes v. French. — Charge of using abusive language. The defendant, who is a widow, should have appeared at the last R. M. Court at Richmond, but failed to do bo, and was in consequence brought up on warrant by the polce. The Bench bound her o»er in her own recognizance of £5 to keep tho peace for six months, and ordered her to pay costs amounting to £3 7s Bd. John Palmer r. W. M. Thomson,— This was a cas - ? of alleged assault, but the Bench, alter hearing the evidence, dismissed it. John Palmer v. Robert Thomson.— Tim was another assault caße. It appeared that Palmer called Thomson everything but a gentleman, when defendant jumped out of a trap he was riding in, and gave him a shaking. He was fined 10s and costs in conseque"co of. hia taking the law into his own hands. Robert Thomson 'v. John Palmer. — Chirge of using abusive and insulting language on thesime date as the Assault above complained of was committed. The Bench fined Palmer lOt and costs. In this and the former case the Bench had considerable difficulty in getting at the truth, in consequence of the eccentric manner of the defsndant Palmer, who would insist upon commenting on plaintiff's evidence as he was giving i\ Th' re were a great manv other cases, but they were settled out of Court,
