The Nelson Evening Mail. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 9, 1875.
Id our advertising columns will be found an address to the electors from Mr Luckie who states that his business engagements in Auckland will not ollow of hia visiting Nelson prior to the election, and under such circumstances he believes it would be vain to hope for succeaa. Id this Mr Luckie shows his good sense. Although we believe that he has exerted himself, >»nd done what he could for Nelson, there is a strong feeling that tha constituency should be represented by local men, who would always be at hand to consult with the electors if necessary, and we do not think that Mr Luckie would have had a chance of beiug elected even if he had been able to spend two or three weska tare, but in hia absence he moat certainly would have been defeated. The Regatta Committee are reques'ed to meet at tbe Trafalgar Hotel this evening at 8 o'clock. The time for receiving nominations of candidates for the vacant seat in the City Council expired at four o'clock to-day, when the following gentlemen had been proposed : — Messrs Augarde, H. D. Jackson, T. Hurley, and W. Healy.
