The Colonial Agpncy reports as follows under date London, 2 1 at Ociober: — Wool.— Ihe third series of sales for the cunent year, which opened 00 Augimt 17th, closed on the Ist in tanfc. The decline in prices noted in our previous rerorts continued throughout, and the result hai been moat un-satisfaCo-y. The attendance of buyers has been Ics9 numerous than usu 1, but toward the close of the sales improved, when the market was betttrsust uned, and there was an absence of the irregularity in prices which has been so m .rked rfu'ing the aeries. We give the number of bales citalogued, and range of prices. Large quantities having been bought in from time to time and reoffered, the number of bales catalogued was larger 'han the mere arrivals for the sales. New Z aland being in very 1 irge proportion have sufreied to the greatest exrent; Merino clips having declined about IJd per lb, while in cross-bred wuola t»'e fall has been 2£d to 3d par ib, and have been much neglected and dim" ult of Bale. The catalogues contained :— NewZ>a!and, 102,611 baits; Cape of Good Hope, 46,250; Port Phillip, 62 354; Sydney and Queensland, 53,441; Adelaide, 14,626; van Dieman's Land, 12,193; Swan River, 795; total, 292,270 bales; also skins and suud-ies, 3000 bales. Range of prices:— New Zialand Fleece: Superior, Is 91 to 2s 5.1; medium, is 6-1 to Is BJd; ordinary and illconditioned, Is 3jd to is /JJd. Scoured: Superior, la l id to 2s 3^d; medium, Is 7d to la l0»d; ordinary and ill-conditioned Is 4d to Is si. Grease: Superior, lljd to la 4Jd; medium 9d to lid; ordin-ry and ill-con iitioned. 7 1 to BJd, There is Lttle to ref ort since the close of the tlie market continues very quiet, and we are afraid higher prices wi;l not be obtained this year. The fou th and closing series for the year of public sales will open on 23rd November, when about 90,000 bales may be e*p<cted to be brought forward, including some 15,000 caried over from auctions just close I. New Zealani? Hemp.— No change to repo tin the position ot this fibre, Small sales are bein< effected at previous rates. Of 400 bales offered on the t3th instant, only 100 sold. Quotations: Common, £16 pix tonfair, £20; good, £22; fine, £26. Tallow has further alvancert since our last. At pubhc auction on the "Isth instant, last sale's ((ate, mutton fair to fine brought 48s 6d to 50s per cwt, and beef fair to fine 47s to 49s per cwt. These prices were from 6d to Is per cwt below those of the previous week, Ahen exceptionally high figures ruled. The market continues to be very steady; the moderate shipments going: on in Australia and elsewhere give confidence to holders. The shipments iroin Australia l%st month were HOO casks, against 4000 same time laat year.
