CORRESPONDENCE.

NELSON REGATTA. To the Editor of the 'Evening Mail' Sir— A correspondent signing himself "Heautontimorumenos" in last, Monday's Mail vtry properly took the Regatta Committee to task for the paltry prize they have set down for the Volunteer Race, but he has overlooked a greater piece of injustice still, namely, the fou--oarod race. The Committee " put this race on the programme knowing full w 11 that there are no boats of that class in Nelson, and that there is not time to build one. Sir, I think it i« hardly fair to Nelson boat-builders to give so short a notice of this race— only four weeks — not even al'owing time to build, much less practice. The consequence will be that Wellington will send over (as I see by the Colonist of Saturday) several four-oared gigs with crews (knowiog well that there are no crews here flt to go ioto them, simply for want of practice), and play into each other's hands. The Cohnitt of Saturday also gives a hint to the boating men of Nelson, urging them to have as much practice as possible, as the time is so short. At present there are only two boats out practising— the Thistle and C-lonist— and it behoves our young men to git oui at once and have plenty of it not, as I saw the Colonist the other night, pull for five minutes and then have a spell, but pull round the whole course once or twice without stopping, as it is only by this that consummation can be attained, Again I would uige on our boating men the necessity of commencing practice at once, nnd not let the Wellington men come over and nay— yeni — vidi—vici. I am, &c., Thetis. Nelson, Dec. 6, 1875. *
