MOTUEKA HIGHWAY BOARD.

Resolved, That the Secretary reply to the letter just read, an i state that the Board will undertake the expenditure of the sum of £300 vote » for the portion of road between Hewc(son's and Lower Moutere Bridge, provided the money be ptid to the Board's credit. Resolved. That the Secretary set out the work for the necessary, repairs to the road, and invite tenders for tha same, provided the Government comply with the resolution just passed.. - The Secretary handed in a plan of a wharf for the Riwaka landing. . Resolved, That the Board approre of the plan, and that the Secretary invite tenders for the erection of the wliarf. The Secretary stated that he had attended on stated days (of which he had given notice by advertisement) in the various sub districts, for the purpose of receiving rates inarrear, but that the amount paid was very small. Resolved, That before summoning the defaulters circulars be senfe requesting them to pay at once, to avoid any further proceedings being taken. The Secretary atated that he had examined the culverts at Myers* Comer as instructed last meeting, and had found one of them completely blocked up, and the other nearly bo. Resolved, That the culverts be attended to at once, and should tha wood when uncovered be found rotten, new culverts to be built, either of stone or brick, whichever the Overseer may think most desirable. A letter was read complaining of timber being stacked on the Moutere road, causing horaos to shy in passing, and endangering the traffic. Resolved, That the Secretary give notice by advertisement that as repeated complaints have been made to the Board of persons j placing timber and other obstacle* on tlu sides of the roads, such persons are cautioned to avoid doine so for the future. A letter was read from Mr Sutcliffe drawing the Board's attention to the fart that the road at prepent in use through his property in Orinoco Valley is not a public road, and requesting to know . what compensation the Board will allow him for tha quantity of land taken for the road, and also for the extra fencing and inconvenience he will be put to, having an ugly three-cornered piece cut off the block. Resolved, That the Secretary reply to Mr Sutcliffe 1 a letter, and recommend him to make application to the Government for compensation, the road he mentions having been mada under Mr Blackett during the time be was Provincial Engineer, and the Board having nothing to do with making it. Resolved, That the Secretary give notice to those person who have trees and hedges overhanging the roads to trim the game. A. letter .was read from Mr Roger Lloyd, of Orinoco, offering to contribute tha sum of £13 towards opening a road to some back land :in his occupation, and trusting the Board would contribute an equivalent amount. Resolved, That the Secretary recommend Mf Lloyd's application t* the notice of the Government, and inform them that the road referred to will open up waste land. Resolved, That the Secretary give notice to tho;e persons who have built culverta over ditches in High-street, Motueka, that unless a free and sufficient passage is Kept for the water, they will be required to remove such culverts. Warrants were signed for tbe payment of £1012b lid. The esessment of rateable property throughout the district was approve), signed, and ordered to be advertised, in accordance with the " Highways Act, 1872."
