BEADING PRIZES.

[Thursday, May 6.] Preseut — Messrs Barnicoat (chairman), Fell, Campbell, Mercer, Burn, Rout, Beuke, Garin, Broad, Talbot, Cresswell, Bishop of Nelson, Archdeacon Thorpe. Minutes of last meetiDg read and confirmed. A letter was read from Mr Roberts, forwarded by Messrs Adams and Kingdon, and proposing a modification of the terms upon which Mr Roberts had agreed to rent certain sections in Westport in April, 1873. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Rout, " That Mr Roberts' letter be returned to the Board's solicitors, with an intimation that the Board decline to alter, in any respect, the original terms offered by Mr Roberts himself, and that Messrs Adams and Kingdon be requested to take such steps as they see fit to enforce performance of the contract." Mr Broad obtained leave to postpone until next meeting the consideration of tho motion standing in his name. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Broad, " That a sub-Committee be appointed to draw up tules for the guidance of subsidised schools, and also to consider the suggestions of the Inspector m to removing the Westport school to another site, and building an additional room for the younger pupils; such committee to consist of the Bishop of Nelson, Mr Rout, and the mover, and to report to the Board at its next meeting." A letter was read from Mr Boyce, of Clifton, complaining of the neglected state of the school land and fence at Clifton. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Rout, "That the Secretary be instructed to direct the attention of the teacher to the grievance complained of, and to inform her that if the property be not hereafter kept in good order, theLocal Committea will be commuuicated with, with a view to their resuming possession at once," Resolved, on the motion of Mr Talbot, « That the Rev. D. M'Kijol's proposition to raise the rent of the schoolrom at Brunnerton from 53 to 8s weekly, on the understanding that the Board be allowed to deduct from the rent a sura not exceeding £13 for shingling the roof, be acceded to." The Inspector, on behalf of himself and his fellow-examiner, Mr Shephard, reported tho result of the Examiners for reading and recitation prizes. An application from the Rev. M. L. Cummins for a subsidy to a school at Reefton was read. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Broad, "That the consideration of this question be adjourned until next meeting, and that tho item, ' second subsidy to Eeefton,' be added to tho estimate of the Board's requirements for the ensuing year.', Resolved on the motion of Archdeacon TnoßPif, " That, from May 1, the salary of Mr J. B. S^dd be increased by £15 per annum./ \ Bank overdruft, M-iy I^\£736 18i 7d.

The following notices of motion were given : — 1. By Mr Mbroer— " That the eatery of "tl.e a sis:ant at Wairma West Village School be increased from £24 to £36." 2. By the Bev. A. M. Gabi*— •< That the salary of the matter of St. Mary's Bayß' fcchool be increased £15 per annum.

Upper Wakefield Motueka and Moutere Schools. First Prizo — Emily Broughani.Lower Motif ere Seond Prize — Martha litinu, Ujper Moute e Weft Coast Schoo's First Prize— Minette M'Donnld, Westpoit Second Prize — Fanny Smith, Cobden.
