At a meeting of his constituents, convened by Mr Gibbs prior to his attending the meeting of the Council, the following resolutions were agreed to:— (1) That it i*? the opinion of this meeting that if any further moneys are available to the district out of the fund formerly intended to be devoted to the conduction of a tramway, they Bhould be expended by the Road Board at their discretion in the valley, rather than on the mountain road to Riwaka. (2) That; Mr Gibbs be requested to make inquiries if there is any money available from the harbor or any. other fund, nnd, if so, he Bhould endeavor to geb a sufficient sum for making a road to the wharf nt Waitapu. (3) That before any further action i. taken-witb the view of improving the road over the range to Riwaka, a bonus be offered for exploring tbe best route, and, if possible, lower down the valley. (4) That Mr Gibbs be requested to endeavor to get a sum' of money placed on the estimates to erect a wbarf at Motupipi, at a point above the present wharf. (5) That in consequence of the great Increase in the shipping trade to the port of Waitipu from the neighboring-provinces, Mr Gibbs be requested to urge upon the Government the great necessity of erecting lights and beacons for the guidance of vessels. (6) 7 hat Mr Gibbs' statement to the effect that he wi 1 not join tlie oppomion for the purpose of turning out the present Eiecutive, meets with tho approval ot tbis meeting.
