TO THE BOYS OF NELSON.

(Per favor op the ' Evening Mail.') Mr dear boys, Harrys and Frankies, Herberts, and Jacks, and all the rest of you !— The caj.t tin of the Naval Brigade leils me he wants a brave, smart little fellow to volunteer as bugler to the Brigade, so I am going to tell you a true story about a bugler. Ooce upon a lime in the Hutt Valley, near Wellington, when there was war with the Maoris, a little soldier boy bugler was with a party of soldiers, when a stronger psrfy of Maoris surprised and nttacked them, and he had to Bouud the alarm and th > reireat. The firstthing the Maoris did was to try and stop the Bound of the bugle by chopping off his right hind which held the bugle to his lips, then ho took it with his left hand and went on sounding; then they chopped off that hand too. and then the brave little fellow crawled to his bugle and put his lips to it as it lay on the ground and continued to blow the alarm to bis com - rades, till the enemy killed him with tluir tomahawks. Now, wasn't th'fl a brave boy in doing his duty? 1 don't know his name, but I think it ought to have been emblazoned in gold on the records of his regiment, and ehouli never be forgo: ten by the English boys of New Zealand. lam quite sure it will not be forgotten hereafter when men and boys leceive their rewards for duty nobly done. Now, if any of you boys who are fond of making a noise on your tin whistles, think you would he able to be as brave as that little soldier boy, and will go to the Captai i of the Brigade and touch your capa and s iy, " flesae, sir, will you make me bugler?" I dare fay that he will make the firtt thut comes his special sailor boy bugler, and th<j rest of you bugler's mates, and teach you to row, and steer, and sail a boat into the bargain. I am, dear r oyj, You is truly, C.'Habrt J., Collingwood.
