DIOCESAN SYNOD.

(Monday, ArniL 5.) The President opened the meeting with prayer. The report of the Wairau Trustees was, on the motion of the Yen Archdeacon Butt, laid before the Committee on Trusts. The Synod went into Committee on the Rep )rt of the Standing Committee, Mr C. Hunttr Brown taking the chair in the absence of Mr Barnicoac. With reference to Clause I, referring to the General Church Fund, it was resolved on the mo 'ion of the Yen Archdeacon Tnonru, seconded by Dr Book, " That the Bishop be requested to call a public meeting of Church members on Monday evening, the i2thinst., with the view of stimulating interest in the General Church Fund." After further discussion of the Report, the Synod resumed, when the Registrar reported th t the writs issued for election of members of the Syno t I ad been returned as fallows: — For Westport, J. R. Mabin; for Ahaura, B. Walmsley; for Rcefton, 11. V. Gully; for f-üburban South, A. W. Barnctt; tor All Saints' Parish, W. J. Rodgerson Mr J. M. Pieivon, on behalf of the trustees, presented the report of the trustees if the Pensi >n Fund, which was received. Reßolvei, on the motion of the Rev. W. Foxai,t\«on, seconded by Mr Mr C. Hunter Brown, "That colleations bo made in every church in the diocese on or near such a day as may h?. fixed by the Standing Conunittte for the Persion and Superannuation Fund." The President drew the attention of the Synod to its action on the previous day's sitting, relative to the admission of clergymen to feats in the Synod without a vote, whetea* no such limiting power esis'ed under the Act of the General S) nod. The Rev. J C. Andrew having signified his willingness to accept a license Ironi the Bishop for occasional duty, the Synod accepted this as a satisfactory settlement of the question. Resolved, on the motion of the Pjiksident, "That tbi* Synod considers that arrangements should be mado either by procuring external clerical assistance, or by distributing the work amongst members of the Synod, to provide that the Lay and Clerical Secretaries shall not be prevented <r< m taking part in the pro; ecdings of the Synod." Resolved on the motion of the Rev W. Ron aldson, seconded by the V<-n Archdeacon Butt, "That the Synod of this Diocese recommend the General Synod to allow the trustees of the Wairau Trut to sell or otherwise dispose of the present parsonage at Pictou, with the two sections U[ on which it stamls. The proceid^ of such pate of land avid, house not to be handed ovtr until the parish shall be enabled thereby to extinguish the debt upon the new parsonago now in course of erection, and conveys to the snid trustees the land putehaseii tor the new parsonage with ihe buildings therton." Other business of a formal nature having been transacted, the Syuod adjourned at eleven p.m. *

(Tuesday, Amir, G.) , The Synod met at thrco p.m., and the proceeding*.were opened wjth prayer, fjr Resolved, on the mo I ion of the ltov W. Ronaldson, seconded by the Von Archdeacon ' Butt, " That this Synod instruct the Standing Committee, as Pension Itonrd, to lend to the parishes needing loans tho manors of the Pension Fund, at current rates of interest, such parishes giving tho namo guarantee for principiland interest nn is now given for loans from the Diocesan Loan Fund." Resolved, oil tho> : motion of tho YLavl J. Leighton, seconded by Mr A, S. Colmns, " That the Diocesan Treasurer be instructed to present in each yeur'B report of proceedings of the Synod, a statement of the stiponds of the clergy of -the Diocese, tho sources from Which ti:ey are derived, and whether paid during the year last past." The Synod aojourned at 530 p.m., until this afternoon.
