SPORTING.
The Dunedin Cop, scarcely second in interest to the Canterbury Cup, will be run for to-morrow, and, bsing a handicap, will probably have a gcoi field. As far as known, thera will be eleven competitors, but probably all that remain unscratched will not go to the post. We give the allowance, from Wfight-for-age standard, which each animal receives : — Mr Redwood's f Ngaro, 3 yrs ... 5 lbs Mr C jtten's h Castaway, 4 yrs ... 6 „ Mr Noswoithy's h Traitor. 4 yrs 9 „ Mr Delimain's c Hercules, 3 yr.8... 10 „ Mr De amflin's h Templeton, 3 yra 11 „ OHpt.Hutchinscn'smSpiitgail/iyrs 18 „ Mr Monaghan's h Tropoli, 4 3rs 23 „ Mr White's g A tlas, aged ... 25 „ Mr Pritchard'a hPetrcbe, 5 yrs ... 25 „ Mr Coombe's h Right Bower, 5 yrs 29 „ Capt.Hutchinson'sg Earl of Lynn £9 „ Notwithstanding Ngaro is giving weight to every animal in the handicap, the last report from DuceJin returns her as the favorite. Ihoug'x entered by Mr Redwood, she U now owned by Mr R. Farmer, of Hawke's Bay, for whom she wes purchased for .£SOO by G-eorgo Cutts at the saleof Mr Redwood's young horstjß in Canterbury, after the last Spring Meeting. She is by Rwenswortb, cut of Countess, a daughter of Phcebe, by the Peer, and is a flue slashing filly. The latest odds as they &i> peared in our paper of Saturday were — 4 to 1 against Ngaro, 5 to 1 Traitor, G to I Earl of Lynne, 8 to 1 Right Bower, Ctistaway, Teaipleton, and Hercules, 9 to 1 Sprittail and Petrobe, aud 15 to 1 Tripoli. We scarcely think it passible Ngaro can win at the weights given, as t) do fo she must be a second Lurline. Templeton's and Traitor'^ chances uppear tetter, but if Right Bower and Petrobe were worth importing from Victoria, those horses should spread-eag'e tho field. Taking public running as a guide, the race should be taken by Castiway, but there is the doubt whether he has been able to stand his preparaticn. In the Ma'den Plate and two or three other races, Capt. Hutchinson Ins a thre>year-old Victoria-bred olt, King Philip, of which great things are expacted. As the name of his dam (Miss Dowling) is not in the Victorian Stud Book, it is doubtful whether he is thoroughbred, and although he won a race at Dunedin on St. Andrew's Day, the company he will meet this week will bo different; and the Captain's hopes may be disappointed. As Capt:iin Hufcchinson races with great spirit, we wish him succes3.
