The booths were offered for sile, but no eligible offer was made. Wellington, Friday. Mr, Justice Gillie was sworn in at the Supreme Court to-day. The Australian Mutual Provident Society have accepted the tender from the Bank of Australasia, of 7 per cent, for the deposit; ot £10,000. A keen dispute took place between Dr. Buller and Mr. Bunny, regarding certain land. The Rangitumua block had been opened for selection at 10s. per acre, but the Provincial Government, finding the laud was worth a good deal more, the buperintendent issued a proclamation withdrawing the land from sale. Dr. Buller applied for 400 acres, and therefore the appearance of the proclamation. He wa3 shown the Superintendent's memorandum, and demurred to thi°, and next day made a written application. Mr. Bunny, in order to defeat the »pp icant, gave a cheque for £15,000 and applied for the whole block, in the hops that the largestappl'cant would swallow up the lesser ones. Dr Buller protested against Mr Bunny's application being received, and the case was referred to the Waste Lands Board to-day

After a sharp discussion the Board decided to refuse both applicatiors. There were other applications for a portion o f theb'ock. Saturday. Despatches from the Agent-General state that the most searching inquiry will be made as to the origin of the fire on the Co?patrick. The Times understands that the cause of Mr Yogel being detained a considerable time at Florence was an attack of the Government. By the last San Francisco mail the Hon Mr Reynolds ordered the lantern apparatus for the six new lighthouses to be erected on the coaßfc, but it was not anticipated that they will arrive here under eighteen months as only two firms in England make lighthouso apparatus, and it takes a long time to maunlacture, but all the preliminary workis being proceeded with. Ihe Boukar brought the lanterns for the Cape Fou'.wind and Tory Channel lighthouses.
