Heavy damages have been given in the Dublin Court of Queen's Bench againßt a sub-Ingpector ot Constabulary for using excessive violence in handcuffing a man whom he had arrested, and against whom the charge made by the constable had been dismissed. The jury awarded the complainant £150. For cruelly ill-treating a horse, by striking it on the head and nose with a thick whip thong, a Liverpool carter has been sent seven da^ys to gaol. The stipendiary magistrate*: in passing sentence, said the only wayl.to teach such as the prisoner how to treat their horses well was to make them feel the punishment they gave to their horses on their own backs, or by sending them to gaol.
