A NEW BUTTERFLY.

To the Editor op the 'Evening Mail.' Sir — It mar be interesting to lovers of nature to be informed that a uew or rare butterfly has made its appearance latterly. I have seen two specimens, one at Hope on tbe 3rd inst, and another at Stoke on the 7th of this month. It is of a reddish brown color, not particularly beautiful but much larger than any I have seen for sixteen years, I should think about four inches across the wings. Its flight is very rapid. Some other entomologist may perhaps have captured one and may favor us with further detsffla. I am, &c\, T. J. R. O. Hope,Decem*er 9, 1874.
