In the last session of the General Assembly Mr Curtis moved, "ibat there be laid on the table a return of all moneys paid to each Provincial Gr<v vernment during the year ending 30th June, 1874, for rent of premises occupied for the purposes of the Supreme, District, and Resident Magistrals' Coarts, Registration of Land Titlee, Customs, Post Office, Telegraph, uo<! other departments of the Colonial Go-r vernment," Iv compliance witb this resolution the return asked for has lately been published, and from it we find tbat from the Ist February, 1873, to the 31st March, 1874, the Piovincial Government of Wellington received £105 for the rent of the Land Transfer _■ fl____H_B^ _. Office, and a like sura for the Deeds I Registry Office. In Canterbury, from ! the Ist January to the 30th June, 1873, there was paid £37 10s. for the Land Transfer Ofiice, and a similar amount for the Deeds Registry Oflice. The return also states that for one quarter, to 30th June, 1874, there was paid £45 for rent, and for one year to the same date £150, but it is not stated who were the recipients, or for what particular oftices these amounts were paid. These returns, we presume, were moved for with a view j to securing to tbe Province of Nelson rent for the offices occupied here by tbe General Government departments, but we have not heard whether anything further has been done in the matter.
