London, September 9. The Government of New Zealand have announced tbe temporary withdrawal ot the San Francisco and Singapore services. Lord George Manners is dead. Spain, September 10. The Marqnis De La Serna is appointed Thief Commander of the army of the North. The defeat at Frigcorda has greatly discouraged tbe Carlists, wbo were also repulsed at Arregon. September 11. Tlie Berlin journals state that the incident of the Carlists firing on a German gunboat at Guatarla is of no consequence. A terrible collision has occurred on the Great Eastern railway, when nineteen were killed and ninety injured. September 12. A t the wool market prices are well sustained, scoured maintaining a favorable position. 156,000 bales are sold, and it is expected that the present prices will continue till the close of the f ales. For wheat, quotations are unchanged ; copper is firm with hardening prices, Straits, £92; Australian, £90 to £91. Three hundred aod forty.threo bales of New Zealand flax have been offered, but the chief part was withdrawn, as the holders wanted from £19 to £20 per ton. NEWS BY THE TORRES STRAITS MAIL. The steamer arrived off Townaville on September 14. She brings the following items of European n^ws. Mr Disraeli states that Fiji will probably be annexed. A settlement of £157,000 a year has been voted to Printe Leopold. The Prince of Asturias will probably be proclaimed king of Spain. All Spain is declared to be in a state of siege. The P. and O. Company surrender £20,000 per annum of their subsidy for permission to pass with tbe mails through the Suez Canal. The Duke of Richmond has given notice that he intends to abolish betting forthwith on the Gcodwood course. A Baronetcy has been conferred on the Lord Mayor of London. A large amount of Australian gold has arrived; money is easy. It is reported that the English and Scottish Australian Chartered Bank recommends a dividend of 7 per cent. Cotton (Indian) is dull of demand at 5d to sjd; sales have been effected at Liverpool of 16,000 bales. There are 1,103,900 bales in stock. New Zealand Fives, 103 to 105 ; South Australian Sixes, 11? to 122; Victorian Sixes, 115 to 117; New South Waled Fives, 18*8---1922,107 to 109. The Home markets show little change.
