The Btar of the South has arrived from Fiji. She brings a fall cargo of cotton end maize, and the first shipment of Fiji sugar. Jan.es Jack, late of Nelson, died at sea, near Levnka, on September 7. Great interest is taken in Sir Hercules Robinson's expected visit. The Fiji Times says that Mr Vogel's Polynesian scheme is too absurd to merit serious consideration. There is great depression at present, owing to the change from cotton to sugar planting. It is stated that serious defalcations have been discovered in the treasury cheat of the late Government. War amongst the tribes is considered probable unless annexation takes place. Wellington, Monday.
