HOKITIKA, AugUßt 10. Mr Vogel's remarks re provincialism are favorably received by nine-tenths of the people on the West Coast. The Times congratulates the Premier upon throwing down the gauntlet to so formidable ao opponent as provincialism, and the other leading papers on tbe Coast hold the same views and advocate the abolition of the present system in both islands.

Auckland, Auguit 10. The schooner Fairy is stranded at the Hokianga Heads, but it is believed that she will be got off safely, and her cargo saved. She is insured in the New Zealand Office for £300. She is owned by Captain Rnttray. A few bottlea of grog found in tbe possession of the providore, but not enumerated in the list of stores, have been seised oo the steamer Star of the South by the Customs officers. Captain Farquahar has been summoned in the Police Court to-day, when the investigation takes place.

Wellington, August 10. A meeting of immigrants has been held here with the object of petitioning the Government that the remaining debt upon their promissory notes be remitted, Several speakers alleged that they were unable to obtain an interview with the Agent-General in London though they tried repeatedly, and that they were led to believe that the Government would not trouble them by recovering upon their promissory notes unless they acquired property.

Christchukch, August 10. It is confidently expected that Mr Montgomery, who forfeited his seat in Parliament by being concerned in a Government contract, will be re-elected without opposition ior Akaroa. He has held a meeting, niad received an unanimous vote of confidence.
