CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Editor op the Evening Mail. Sir— lt is reported in to-day's Colonisi, upon the authority of Mr Luckie, tbat the Premier showed the Nelson deputation "a plan with a red line diverging from Foxhill by way of Tarndale," and threw doubts and difficulties in tbe way of the Buller route.
From letters from some of our Neiaou members quoted this evening at tbs meeting of the Inland Communication Committee, I gather tbat the Premier talked about "a new and easy routs down tbe Wairau Valley to Picton," and tbat tbe " heights" Mr Luekie mentions ore somewhere between Tarndale and tha Amuri 5 thence to Christchurch would l_ an easy Hoe, and no doubt a practicable pass could be found, at the mere request of that wealthy province, to connect that part of tbe line witb Hokitika and the Grey. Should these be the ideas of the Government with regard to the Nelson and West Coast Railway, it plainly means that we nre to have the inestimable privilege of connection by a small branch line with a main line from Christchurch to Picton, and are expected to be content to see Christchurch the port for the West Coast south of the Grey, whilst that part of the country peculiarly our own, the great Buller district, wili remain absolutely neglected and undeveloped. If this, which to my mind is worse than nothing, is to be the end of all tba talk about the just claims of the Nelson Province, of wbich wo bave beard so much from the Premier lately, then I can only say that in my opinion all this talk will have been mere rubbish, that the Government have totally failed to keep the promises previously made to us, and that every man in the place should rise and protest against such rank injustice. We shall inevitably bave to bear our share of the burdeD, and we have a plain right to our fair share of the expenditure, and I trust that the voice of the public will be heard on Tuesday night iv such a tone as will convince the Premier that we mean to have it too. I am, &c, Charles Y. Fell. Nelson, August 1, 1874.
